Simple Tips for Launching a Business and Adopting a New Pet

Starting a business and bringing a new pet into your home at the same time might seem like an intimidating challenge. But it can add all kinds of fulfillment and rewards to your life if you plan your steps carefully.

Achieving success in both areas will require dedication, creativity, and persistence. You must make tough decisions while remaining flexible enough to adapt to unexpected changes. And of course, you’ll need to find ways to show your furry friend love and attention amidst the chaos!

You have a challenging journey ahead, but you can make it work with the right attitude and tools. Off the Chain Training and Rescue has some practical tips to get you started!

Get an LLC.

One of your first steps will be to form an LLC. This will help separate your personal and business finances, as well as protect you from certain legal issues that could arise. Research the type of LLC that best fits your specific business, as each state has its own laws regarding LLCs.

You should also speak with an attorney who specializes in working with small businesses to make sure everything is done properly. Or, consider delegating the task to a formation service, which is much less expensive!

Build a brand identity.

Having a solid and recognizable brand identity is essential for any business. Think about the message you want to communicate and how it will distinguish your business from others in the industry. Then, create a logo, tagline, and website that reflect that message and help potential customers identify with it quickly. If you don’t have much design experience, hire a branding specialist to help.

Create a website.

Having an online presence is vital for making your business stand out from the competition. A quality website allows potential customers to learn more about your company and contact you with questions and for purchasing.

Make sure your website is easy to navigate so visitors can quickly find what they’re looking for. And consider using infographics on your website to provide information quickly and clearly without overwhelming users with text. You can easily find free, premade templates and add your own copy, background, and designs for beautiful infographics that engage your target market!

Invest in quality pet products.

Investing in products that will keep your pet healthy and happy is critical as a pet owner. Research the different products available for various types of pets (e.g., shampoos, harnesses, crates, etc.), and purchase only those that are safe and of the highest quality. When shopping for pet products, be sure to use reputable online resources for in-depth reviews and advice. Here’s a free resource for pet lovers!

Use smart gadgets.

You’re likely going to need some smart gadgets to manage your business and care for your pet successfully. Items like automated food and water dispensers, automatic litter boxes, and interactive toys can make life much easier as you juggle all your responsibilities. These gadgets provide convenience and peace of mind knowing that you don’t have to worry about menial tasks or forgetfulness.

Hire a trainer.

Training your new pet is a crucial part of transitioning into entrepreneurship. With proper training, you and your pet can settle into your new routine and build a strong relationship together.

Training your furry friend helps to build obedience and trust — and, most importantly — shows them that you are their master. Investing the time and money in training will benefit both you and your pet because you’ll know that your pet can behave within certain parameters when necessary. Summary

Don’t forget how rewarding entrepreneurship with a pet in tow can be when you think about the challenges ahead. You can set yourself up for long-term success by making a plan, doing your research, and practicing perseverance. Remember to establish an LLC, develop a strong brand identity and website, purchase the right products, and invest in training for your furry companion. You’ll taste a more fulfilling life in no time!

A Note from the Trainer:  Angie says: "Do your homework!"

Know what type of pet you're looking for! Research any breeds that you're interested in before you adopt it (or purchase it).  Seeing a breed on TV and thinking, "I want a dog like that!" is NOT a good reason to get that breed.  Dogs you see on TV or out in public that interest you are [most likely] very well trained.  Some breeds are great with kids, and some are not family pets at all! Some breeds are great for working on a farm, and some are not the working type.  Decide with everyone else in the family on the type and temperament of dog you would like and go from there.  If you have any questions about a breed of dog, don't be afraid to ask questions, such as "Do these dogs make good family pets?" or "Will I be able to easily train this breed of dog? or Will it take more work than I'm able to give?" "Is this breed known for barking a lot?" " Will this breed be a couch potato like me, or will it need tons of exercise every day?"  Having these questions and more answered before deciding on a dog will save you money and time once you've gotten the dog home.  I hear this all the time from clients,"I didn't know he would be this much work!" or "We thought he was going to be a calm dog like so-and-so's dog is!"  Both of these issues can be avoided if you do your homework prior to adopting (or purchasing) your next pet! Yes, this goes for other pets as well! Please, feel free to reach out if we can be of further assistance.
